About Me:
Information & Personal Biography
I'm Laura Fortini. I'm 20 years old; I'm an aspiring musician and am currently involved in University studies at York University in Toronto, Ontario. I have a sincere passion for expression, and I find the easiest mode of communication is through songwriting. I strive to write, compose, and create-- all with an intention to connect. Along with that, performance acts as the greatest form of catharsis and is something I've truly loved for as long as I can remember doing it.
I have been writing songs since the age of 12, and within high school, I began not only writing to create an album, but I wanted to use the experiences I was having to connect with others that I felt could have been in the same position as me. I am currently looking for a label and representation, as that is not yet something I have. Attached on this page is a link to a writen out version of the intent I have for my work (some might even call this a prologue). On the "Projects" page of my website, you'll see some of the songs I want to put out, with lyrics and an attempt at a recording. In using my own equipment, I attempted to put together a rough draft recording of the songs I feel most represent me and what I intend to make out of my work. This page is also where you can find my resume, if you're interested.

Thank you for lending me your time, I hope this is something you enjoy.
Experience
Musical Background & Performance Experience
I started with music at a very young age: I was four when I first took piano lessons, and six when I first transfered to vocal music. Within this time, I had first begun singing lessons as well as eventually training for my first Royal Conservatory (RCM) exam at the age of 7. I completed the first exam (beginning in Level 2) with Honours the year after. I was 11 when I completed Level 3, and finished with First-Class Honours.
At the age of 8, after already being in multiple recitals, I began performing songs from artists I loved (and still do!): namely, Taylor Swift and Adele for school shows and competitions. I performed at talent shows, concerts and in choirs all through elementary school and in extracurriculars.

Once I finished Level 3 RCM, I began learning guitar at 12 years old, the same time as I began songwriting. I am a self-taught gutarist of 7 years, having only started structured lessons recently. The instruments I use most are guitar and piano respectively, although I do also have some experience on ukulele, and my piano is strictly self-taught.
At the age of 13, I took to organized theatre as my extracurricular, while still participating in school and outside recitals/performances. I continued with theatre through to the first part of high school, until I enrolled in the Vocal Music course ("Vocals") and became part of the concert choir there. I was an active member in both ensembles throughout all of high school; which I sincerely loved and am greatly impacted by. I was in as many live performances as I could handle until the pandemic forced closure on most of what I was involved in. I lost Vocals, but I graduated high school being able to participate in choir through online rehearsals and virtual performances. During that time, I did get to learn basic production skills through various courses and opportunities, which I now use to record demos of my own work.
Through all of that, writing songs and blending lyric with chord and melody has always been a staple in my form of expression. It's become something that I need in order to process properly-- but moreover, fully.

I am now in the process of completing Level 6 RCM while in my second year of University and am thrilled about being part of the Concert Choir within the Fine Arts program. I am looking forward to attempting to make something out of experience in what I create, and I'm ready to embrace whatever awaits!
Additional Information
More Informatiion on This Website
My work consists of original music, as these are the songs that I want to have professionally recorded. As such, the website is going to be updated according to/based on the projects I complete as I go along. As stated, all original music can be found on the "Projects: Selected Work" page of this website.
For my music, the songs that I specifically showcase are chosen because I feel they represent me and the type of person I am, as well as -- naturally -- are songs I'm really proud of.
